The Defense Information System Agency’s Teleport Project, consisting of “turn-key” packages for the construction, testing, and licensing of 14 teleports for U.S. Military Satellite Communications, was awarded to Arrowhead Global Solutions, Inc. in 2003. Under a sub-contract agreement, Michael-Bruno, LLC, was tasked to fulfill the design and civil engineering of all the teleports—California, Maryland, Hawaii, Japan, Italy, and Germany.
Project consisted of full electrical, structural, and civil engineering, architectural design in AutoCAD 2003 and, in Landstuhl, Germany, Bentley MicroStation formats.
Michael-Bruno conducted the tasking, utilizing its US and European teams of engineers and architects, with operations support from the Delaware office to develop the C-band and Ku-band satellite communications terminals designs.
In some areas, such as Italy, we also implemented AT/FP upgrades as this location included a new parameter fence line.
Some of the special challenges of the global teleport contract included seismic studies and the structural impact on design for these 20-meter and 9-meter dish terminals. The seismic work was carried out in Italy, California, and Hawaii. The latter also included weather, in particular hurricane factors in the engineering.
